7.G.4: Understanding and Applying Circle Formulas: Area, Circumference and Their Relationship

Grade: 7th Grade

Domain: G: Geometry

Standard Description

Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.

Domain Description

Tasks include solving issues related to scale drawings of geometric shapes, such as computing actual lengths and areas and recreating scale drawings in different scales. Create geometric shapes using various methods, with emphasis on constructing triangles from three measurements of angles or sides, observing the conditions that determine a singular, multiple, or no triangles.

Characterize the two-dimensional figures obtained from slicing three-dimensional figures, in the context of right rectangular prisms and pyramids. Be aware of the formulas for the circle's area and circumference and apply them; informally deduce the relationship between the circle's circumference and area.

Utilize knowledge about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a complex problem to formulate and solve straightforward equations for an unknown angle in a figure. Solve practical and mathematical problems regarding area, volume and surface area of 2D and 3D objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes and right prisms.
