6.RP.2: Understanding and Applying Unit Rates in Ratio Relationships
Grade: 6th Grade
Domain: RP: Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Standard Description
Domain Description
Grasp the idea of a ratio and use the language of ratios to express the relationship between two measurements. Like saying, for every two bird wings, there is one beak, or for each vote for candidate A, candidate C gets almost three. Comprehend the concept of a unit rate and use it in the context of a ratio. For instance, in a recipe with a 3:4 flour to sugar ratio, each cup of sugar requires 3/4 cup of flour, and $75 for 15 hamburgers means each burger costs $5. Be capable of creating tables of equivalent ratios for whole numbers, locating missing table values, and comparing ratios using these tables.
Solve problems related to unit rates, like unit pricing or speed. As an example, if four lawns are mowed in seven hours, how many can be mowed in 35 hours and at what speed? Calculate a percentage of a quantity as a rate out of 100, like 30% of a quantity equates to 30/100 of it. Solve problems involving finding the total amount from a given part and percentage. Use ratio logic to switch between measurement units and skillfully adjust and alter units when multiplying or dividing quantities.
