4.NBT.1: Understanding Place Value and Division in Multi-Digit Whole Numbers
Grade: 4th Grade
Domain: NBT: Number and Operations in Base Ten2
Standard Description
Domain Description
Understand the place value of digits in multi-digit numbers, with each digit signifying ten times the value it does in the next place to the right. Derive that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by leveraging place value and division principles.
Read, write and compare multi-digit numbers using base-ten numerals, verbal names, and expanded form, and indicate their comparison results using >, =, < symbols.
Round multi-digit numbers to any place using place value comprehension.
Comfortably add and subtract multi-digit numbers via the standard algorithm.
Multiply a four-digit or less number by a single digit number, as well as two two-digit numbers using place value-based strategies and operation properties. Represent and describe the calculation process through equations, rectangular arrays, or area models.
Solve whole number quotients and remainders up to four digits and one digit divisors, applying understanding of place value, operation properties and the interrelation of multiplication and division. Similar to multiplication, illustrate and explain these calculations.
